Five members of a family, who were victims in a murder cum suicide case, were laid to rest in Rahim Yar Khan on Saturday.
A man reportedly committed suicide after killing his wife and three children due to poverty on Friday night.
Police said Ram Chand, a resident of Chak 135, committed suicide by cutting his vein after killing his wife and three children with a sharp instrument due to domestic disputes over poverty. The police took the bodies into custody and transported them to a hospital for autopsy. After the medical and legal procedures were completed, the last rites of the five members of the same family were performed at Patan Minara cemetery.
A murder case has been registered on the complaint of Tirtha Ram against his brother-in-law Ram Chand, while the police have started investigating the incident.
Punjab Chief Minister Usman Buzdar took notice of the incident and sought a report from the additional IGP South Punjab, RPO and DPO.
Ram Chand was a resident of Chak 135P, he used to work as a tailor. He was poor because he had not worked for a long time and was frustrated by the quarrels within the family caused by his financial problems.

On Friday night, he allegedly cut the throats of his wife and three children with a sharp instrument. After that, Ram Chand himself cut his veins with the murder weapon.
When the neighbours did not receive aresponse after repeated knocks on the door of the house in the morning, they broke it down with the help of other locals and found the woman and children dead, while Ram Chand was critically injured.
Rescue 1122 teams were called and they rushed Ram Chand to the Sheikh Zayed Hospital for treatment, but he succumbed to his injuries. As soon as the incident was reported, SP Arsalan Shahzeb and DSP City Circle Javed Akhtar Khan Jatoi along with SHO Shabir Ahmed reached the spot.
