DLA to address demand for international permits

Citizens from any city eligible to get a license from DLA in convenient, efficient and transparent manner

ISLAMABAD:

The newly established internationally accredited Drivers Licencing Authority (DLA) of National Highways and Motorway Police (NHMP), which was relatively unknown until a few years ago, is becoming popular with the passage of time.

The main reason for this is the growing demands by Pakistanis seeking international driving permits in their country for getting jobs in the Gulf and Arab states. This was told by DLA head Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Sanam Khurram on Thursday.

She told that the authority has made great strides in making its credibility inland and across the world since its formal inception in 2014. The main concept of this landmark initiative was to establish a credible licencing authority to bring competent and disciplined drivers on the roads, she maintained, adding that manned with trained staff, the authority was currently issuing around forty licences every month.

A proposal has been sent to the Ministry of Communication for new branches of DLA across all provincial capitals in the next phase and thereafter to the rest of the country, she added.

Sanam also mentioned that irrespective of other similar institutions, the DLA has a distinguished feature of having its jurisdiction across the country and any citizen of the country belonging to any city is eligible to get a license from DLA in a convenient, efficient and transparent manner.
