17 candidates in the run for 11 Senate seats of Sindh

As many candidates withdrew nomination papers on Thursday

Seventeen candidates from different political parties will be contesting the upcoming Senate election from Sindh, after the withdrawal of the nomination papers of as many nomination papers.

Of the contesting candidates, 11 belong to the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), two to the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) as many to the Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) and one each to the Grand Democratic Alliance (GDA) and Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP).

The candidates will contest the polls on 11 seats of Sindh in the Senate.

Among those whose nomination papers have been withdrawn, three are from the PPP, nine from the PTI, four from the MQM-P and one from the GDA.

Yesterday was the deadline for the withdrawal of nomination papers and the final list of the candidates will be issued today (Friday).

PTI

PTI’s Mahmood Moulvi, Ashraf Qureshi, Umaid Ali Junejo, who had filed nomination papers to contest on general seats, withdrew their papers on Thursday. Besides, Samar Ali Khan, Hunaid Lakhani and Hassan Bakhshi, who intended to contest on the seats reserved for technocrats, and Fiza Zeeshan, Sareena Adnan and Erum Butt, who planned to contest on seats reserved for women, also withdrew their nomination papers.

Following this development, Federal Water Resources Minister Faisal Vawda will be contesting on general seat from Sindh and PTI leader Saifullah Abro will contest on seats reserved for technocrats.

MQM-P

From the MQM-P, Sabeen Ghori, who was to contest on women seats, Zafar Kamali and Khawaja Sohail Mansoor, who were to contest the polls on general seats, and Shahab Imam, who was to compete for a technocrat seat, withdrew their nomination papers.

The party had taken back the nomination papers of Amir Khan and Abdul Qadir Khanzada earlier.

Now Faisal Sabzwari will contest the elections on general seats from the MQM-P, and Khalid Ateeb on seats reserved for women.

PPP

Khairun Nisa and Farzana Baloch, who were to contest the poll on women seats from the PPP, also withdrew their nomination papers.

Shahadat Awan, who had filed the nomination papers for general as well as technocrat seats, withdrew his nomination for the latter.

Now, Sadiq Ali Memon, Saleem Mandviwala, Sherry Rehman, Dost Ali Jessar, Jam Mehtab Hussain, Taj Haider and Shahadat Awan will be contesting on general seats from the PPP, Farooq H Naek and Karim Ahmed Khawaja will contest on seats reserved for technocrats and Palwasha Zai Khan and Rukhsana Parveen will contest on women seats.

GDA

After the withdrawal of the papers of Sardar Raheem, only Pir Sadaruddin Shah will participate in the polls from the GDA and will contest on general seats.

TLP

Yashallah Khan Afgan from the TLP will contest the polls on seats reserved for technocrats.

Sindh has seven general seats in the Senate, besides two each are reserved for technocrats and women.
