Minister pledges steps to save youth from drugs

Anti-narcotics walk held from D-Chowk to Parliament House

ISLAMABAD:

Federal Minister for Narcotics Control Brig (retd) Ijaz Ahmad Shah on Wednesday highlighted the importance of creating awareness among the people against drug abuse and purging society of the accursed menace.

Speaking to the media after participating in a walk organised by Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF), he said the drug abuse was rampant in the whole country and needed joint efforts to completely eliminate it from our society.

The participants of the walk, which started from D-Chowk and culminated at the Parliament House, carried placards and pamphlets inscribed with slogans against the drug addiction and its effects on the whole family.

Shah said it posed a serious threat to the youth of the country.

"Each one of us needs to play his role in the elimination of this scourge from our country" he added.

The minister regretted that students were becoming addictive to this malaise. "We will do our best to save youth from the evil of drug abuse and secure their future."

Participants included students, representatives from the Pakistan Boys Scouts Association, the Pakistan Girls Guide Association, civil society members and representatives of the United Nations organisations working in Pakistan.
