Balochistan gets 10 days to amend LG Act

Secretary Raza Ahmad apologises to ECP for demarcating constituencies incorrectly

ISLAMABAD:

The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has given the Balochistan government 10 days to make necessary amendments to the Local Government Act.

The ECP held a meeting pertaining to local body elections in Balochistan and Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa on Thursday in Islamabad.

During the meeting, the Local Government Secretary Raza Ahmed, on behalf of the Balochistan government apologised to the ECP for demarcating constituencies according to the provisional statistics of the official census of 2017.

The ECP also directed the federal government to release the official publication of the 2017 census before March 1.

Responding to the directions given by ECP, the deputy attorney general confirmed that the federal government is working for the official publication of the 2017 census results.

The ECP summoned all parties for a retrial in the first week of March.

Local body elections to be held in K-P on April 8 and May 29

It is pertinent to note that a group of former councilors, held a press conference at Quetta Press Club yesterday demanding the government to hold local body elections in the province without any delay.

They highlighted that it is necessary to hold new elections within 120 days of the local government’s expiration term.

“We have appealed to all the political parties rincluding the opposition to fulfill the promises made,” they added.
