Prof Dr. Zia ul Qayyum, the vice-chancellor of the Allama Iqbal Open University, on Wednesday met with Gilgit-Baltistan Chief Minister Muhammad Khalid Khursheed. During the meeting in his office, Dr. Qayyum briefed him on the educational services provided by the AIOU to the people of GB.
GB Education Minister Raja Muhammad Azam Khan and AIOU Director Coordination & Follow-up Maj Muhammad Omer were present in the meeting.
Dr. Qayyum said the AIOU was providing free matriculation education to the people of GB besides offering them scholarships and fee concessions. He further briefed him on various initiatives of the AIOU to provide educational facilities to the distant regions of Pakistan as well as underprivileged and marginalised segments of the society by establishing regional offices in underdeveloped areas.
He also talked about AIOU’s gradual transformation of its academic and administrative processes from manual to automation.
Khalid Khursheed lauded the AIOU’s educational contributions to the distant mountain ranges and valleys of the GB. He praised Dr. Qayyum for his educational services.
The GB education minister assured of his maximum support and cooperation in extending the educational network of the AIOU in GB.
