ISLAMABAD:

The novel coronavirus (Covid-19) cases continue to surge in the federal capital as 79 new patients were reported during the last 24 hours, a National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC) spokesperson shared on Friday.

As many as 94 cases were reported on Thursday while 68 cases were reported on Wednesday, the official reported. He said that so far 41,734 cases were reported in the city and 478 patients have lost their lives to Covid19 while 39,987 patients have completely recovered.

Meanwhile, on the directions of the Ministry of National Health Services, the Islamabad Capital Territory Administration (ICTA) had continued a smart lockdown in different streets of the capital to reduce transmission of the infection in specific areas and other sectors. They had started taking actions on violation of standard operating procedures (SOPs) related to the virus upon visits of marriage halls, marketplaces, and petrol pumps by its inspection teams. The administration also sealed schools, shops, workshop and restaurants over violation of SOPs in previous months.

The inspection teams had further issued notices to marriage halls besides imposing fines on owners of different shops. Commenting on the situation, an official of the Ministry of National Health Services said that several local-level administrative decisions were made to control the disease.
