No compromise on quality of investigation: Islamabad IGP

CJP visits federal judicial academy, reiterates importance of evidence collection

Islamabad Inspector General of Police (IGP) Qazi Jamilur Rehman has directed all officials to ensure quality investigation into crime cases and provide relief to people through quick resolution of their concerns, a spokesperson said on Thursday.

He stated this while addressing the station house officers (SHOs) and investigation in-charges deputed at each police station. DIG operations Afzaal Ahmed Kausar, the SSP operations and the SSP investigation were also present on the occasion.

The police chief stated that quality investigation and prevention of crime were among his top priorities and no compromise would be made on it. He directed officials to adopt a courteous attitude with complainants visiting police stations.

He mentioned that he was aware of the issues of investigation officers and was trying his best to resolve them. The performance of investigation officers would be reviewed on a continuous basis and those showing good performance would be further encouraged, he added.

The IGP said a system was being introduced for the transfer of investigation funds to police stations. He asked the DIG and the SSP (operations) to contact complainants themselves and get feedback on the investigation officers.

“The main purpose behind deployment of investigation in-charges at all police stations is to provide immediate relief and justice to people while no compromise would be made on it,” he reiterated.

'Investigation key to justice'

Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Justice Gulzar Ahmed paid a visit to the Federal Judicial Academy on Thursday.

Addressing the under-training police officials, he highlighted the importance of investigation department in the criminal justice system, saying that the department was a pillar when it came to ensuring justice.

Some 90 per cent of those accused of crimes walked free only because of negligence in the investigation process of their cases, the CJP lamented. He said that concrete evidence was of principal value in the investigation process, hence, the stronger the investigation the higher the chances of getting a conviction.
