Police arrest double murder suspect from Azad Kashmir

An extreme case of sibling rivalry came to fore when a murder suspect claimed killing his brother and father because he was neglected at home.

The Rawalpindi police finally arrested the suspect who had allegedly shot dead his father and brother within the remits of Airport police station and fled to Azad Jammu and Kashmir.

The suspect, Aqeel Kamal, second among five brothers, claimed in his statement to the police that he had committed the double murder over domestic disputes, including getting much less attention than his brothers at home and in business and being ignored in every matter.

A case of double murder was registered on January 23 five days ago within the limits of Airport police station. Raja Shakeel Kamal, while filing the case stated that he along with his father Muhammad Sharif, and brothers work at their showroom in Car Chowk, Rawalpindi where they do business of buying and selling cars.

Aqeel also worked at the showroom. On the day of the incident, Shakeel said that his father, Raja Muhammad Sharif, brother Aqeel and younger brother Adeel were present in the showroom.

Aqeel had a heated argument with his father Sharif and younger brother Adeel, suddenly he pulled out a pistol and opened fire fatally injuring both of them. The victims were rushed hospital but died on way. Aqeel however escaped from the scene.

Police were conducting raids to arrest the accused. After picking up his friends and acquaintances, police got a tip about the whereabouts of Aqeel.

Subsequently, the Rawalpindi police made a request to the home department, which in turn contacted the AJK government to allow a raid in its jurisdiction.

A squad of Airport police station along with the AJK police raided a house in the Hajira area of AJK and arrested Aqeel. The suspect was shifted to Rawalpindi on the same day.

Police spokesman said when contacted said, initial investigation revealed that the accused who lived and worked with his father and brothers, was jealous of other brothers, including his younger brother Adeel.

Aqeel told the police that Adeel always got more value in home and business and he was being ignored. Domestic resentment was also found. The police spokesman further said that the accused has been produced in the court and remanded into police custody for three days.

Police said investigation is under way during which the murder weapon will also be recovered and events leading to the murder will be looked into.

The suspect, a clear example of sibling rivalry, is second among the brothers. The eldest brother is the plaintiff while the younger brother Adeel is the victim.
