The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Wednesday disposed of a petition filed by students of a university, seeking directives for the holding of online exams given the Covid-19 pandemic situation.
Referring the matter to the Higher Education Commission (HEC), the court said it could not interfere in policy decisions.
Justice Baber Sattar heard the case that was filed by students of the National University for Modern Languages (NUML). The petitioners' lawyer pleaded that the students had been restricted to homes in their respective areas due to the coronavirus outbreak.

He said the university administration had previously announced online exams but later it reversed its decision, asking students to sit exams at the campus.
When the petitioners' said they had been studying online and therefore were not ready to sit exams at the campus, the court rejected the argument, saying it was a not a valid point.
The court said the holding of exams at the campus did not constitute discrimination against the students.
