A woman was reportedly murdered after sexual assault during robbery in Shahdara area of the provincial metropolis on Wednesday.
The unidentified suspected robbers barged into the house in Lalazar Colony. The victim had been living in the house with her husband Umar Baig, mother-in-law and children. Her husband dealt in transport business.
On the day of the incident, Umar and the children visited a market to buy items for the birthday party of his child. When they returned, they found the victim in a pool of blood on a bed, while gold ornaments and cash were missing from the house.
The family informed the police. A police team reached the spot on information and collected forensic evidence.
Initial investigations suggested that the crime might have been committed by someone close to the family as the house had an automatic lock.
Police said there was a possibility that the suspects, who may have been close to the family, barged into the house, conducted the robbery and assault, and fled from the scene. Police said that they were searching for the suspects.

Meanwhile, a nurse was allegedly sexually assaulted by a doctor on Wednesday.
The nurse was raped by the doctor after being lured by the accused in Civil Lines. The victim alleged that the suspect identified as Bilal had lured her to visit him and promised her a job.
He took her to a flat. The victim was allegedly intoxicated after drinking tea. The doctor then sexually assaulted her. Reportedly, the victim and the doctor had worked together in Services Hospital. Police said that they were investigating the matter further.
In an earlier incident of reported in the provincial capital on January 8, a differently-abled person was allegedly gang raped in the fields near Maulana Shaukat Ali Road. The victim Moazam Pervaiz in his complaint before police reported that he worked in a super store in packing.
He took a motorcycle-rickshaw near Chowk Yateem Khana. A driver and another person had been riding it. As they reached near Muslim Town, another person got onto the rickshaw. When he tried to get off the rickshaw, a suspect threatened him against leaving. They took him to fields near Shaukat Ali Road and gang raped him. The suspects also snatched Rs10,000 which the victim had received as salary.
