It's been a year since NBA legend Kobe Bryant and his daughter, rising basketball star Gianna Bryant, and seven others lost their lives in a fateful helicopter crash. Fans of the late star honoured the basketball legend on Tuesday in Los Angeles, a city where the memory of his death is still fresh.
The death of Kobe, who won five championships in his 20 seasons with the LA Lakers, stunned the sports world and led to an outpouring of emotion across the city, where the pain of his loss is matched only by the legacy he left behind. His wife Vanessa Bryant, who gave a moving speech at a memorial for Kobe and Gianna at the Staples Center last February, said the tragedy still “doesn’t seem real.”
Sharing a letter by one of Gianna's friends, she wrote, "Today, I received this sweet letter from one of Gianna’s best friends, Aubrey. I love you, Aubz (as my Gigi would call you). Thank you so much for beautifully sharing some of your memories of my Gigi with me and allowing me to share them here on my Instagram."
Vanessa went on to add, "My Gigi is incredible and I truly appreciate your thoughtful letter. She loves you so much." She then shared the tragedy still feels unreal. "I miss my baby girl and Kob-Kob so much, too. I will never understand why/how this tragedy could’ve happened to such beautiful, kind and amazing human beings. It still doesn’t seem real. Kob, we did it right. Gigi, you still make mommy proud. I love you!"
