LAHORE:

The Lahore Waste Management Company (LWMC) has signed agreements with local contractors for a transition period of three to six months in order to provide garbage collection and cleanliness services in the provincial metropolis.

The company has also initiated the bidding process to procure cleanliness services as per PPRA rules. As per estimates, the cleanliness expenditures of nine towns of the provincial capital for the period are Rs2.6 billion, but the authority has received bids of less amounts.

The company had invited bids on December 16, 2020, and opened technical bids on January 2 and financial bids on January 23. Total 12 companies participated in the bidding process, out of which six qualified on the basis of technical specifications.

A sum of Rs335 million has been saved for cleaning seven towns of Lahore and up to six-month contracts have been signed for primary and secondary collection.

The LWMC spokesman disclosed that no firm had qualified for Allama Iqbal Town and Gulberg Town on technical grounds. The company will itself ensure cleaning arrangements in the areas.
