Covid-19 death toll climbs to 3,900 in Sindh

Sindh reports eight more fatalities, another 854 cases

The pandemic claimed eight more lives in Sindh lifting the provincial death toll to 3,900 while 854 new cases were reported on Monday.

According to a statement issued by the Chief Minister’s House, 11,497 tests were conducted and 854 new cases emerged. Thus far, 2, 653,596 tests have been conducted against which 242,053 cases were diagnosed, of them 91 per cent or 219,952 patients have recovered, including 471 overnight, said Shah.

According to Shah, there are currently 18,201 patients under treatment for the contagion in Sindh, of them 17,290 are in home isolation, 12 at isolation centers and 899 at different hospitals. He added that the condition of 821 patients was stated to be critical, including 81 shifted to ventilators.

According to the statement, out of 854 new cases, 579 have been detected from Karachi, including 235 from East, 154 South, 67 Korangi, 56 Central, 36 Malir and 31 West. Hyderabad has 51, Shaheed Benazirabad 37, jamshoro 21, Sangar and Ghotki 20 each, Larkana and Shikarpur 15 each, Sajawal 12, Mirpurkhas 10, Matiari and Nausheroferoze 6 each, Dadu and Jacobabad 2 each, Kashmor and Tando Allahyar 1 each.

The chief minister urged people of the province to follow SOPs.

Separately, the Sindh Police department spokesperson said on Sunday that 176 new cases were reported in the police department in the past four days. Around 5,422 personnel and officers of Sindh Police had contracted coronavirus so far, informed the spokesperson. He told that currently 553 officers and personnel are under treatment while 4846 had recovered from the disease. The spokesperson further said that 23 policemen lost their lives battling against COVID-19. He said all due care was being provided to the affected cops.
