Chief Justice of the Islamabad High Court (IHC) Justice Athar Minallah has termed the role of court reporters important in restoring public confidence in the courts of the country and hoped they continue to perform their duties professionally and in an unbiased fashion.
The IHC chief justice shared these views at a reception in honour of the newly-elected office-bearers of the Islamabad High Court Journalists Association (IHCJA) on the lawns of the IHC here on Friday.
Current President of the IHCJA, Saqib Bashir (Reporter, Express News), Secretary Ehtisham Kiani, former president Amir Saeed Abbasi, Awais Yousafzai along with other members of the association were also present on the occasion.
The chief justice was of the view that the court reporters presented the true picture to both the courts of the country and the litigants, and through them, people learnt whether institutions were working as per law or not.
The chief justice also added that for the peace and progress of society, rule of law was of utmost importance and where there was no rule of law, there was chaos and anarchy.
He expressed his pleasure that the journalists’ representative body of the IHC conducted elections every year in a fair and transparent manner, and congratulated its newly elected cabinet. He also hoped that in future too, the beat reporters of the IHC would continue to withhold high journalistic standards by continuing to transparently report on cases within the court.
The newly-elected President of the IHCJA Saqib Bashir, as well as other members of the IHCJ, thanked the Chief Justice.
On January 16, the IHCJA, through an electoral process, voted in the new cabinet including Saqib Bashir as its president and Ehtisham Kiani as its Secretary.
