Mahira Khan promises small screen comeback this year

Actor celebrates ten years since 'Humsafar' aired and announces she will be starring in a drama soon

Entertainment Desk January 19, 2021

It's been a decade since Mahira Khan left her mark with hit drama serial Humsafar. The actor, who made her acting debut with Shoaib Mansoor's Bol, has opted to work on the big screen for the last few years, letting dramas take a backseat. Currently, busy as ever, she is juggling three films: The Legend of Maula Jatt, Quaid-e-Azam Zindabad and Neelofar.

However, Khan thinks it's high time she makes a comeback on the small screen. Speaking to actor Ahmad Ali Butt at a recent celebration for a local channel, the starlet talked about her upcoming projects and the ordeal of having tested positive for coronavirus last month. "I had it really bad. My brother and some of my friends are okay now but I had some bad symptoms. Alhamdulillah, I'm out of it now," she shared.

Apparently, Khan didn't really binge on TV shows during quarantine but read lots of scripts. She hasn't signed anything yet but plans on making a comeback to the small screen. "This year, I will come back to dramas," she revealed.

The Raees actor made a lasting impression with Humsafar and was last seen in Ehteshamuddin's Superstar, alongside Bilal Ashraf. "It has truly been magical," she remarked. "Humsafar is just what it is and is the reason why I continue to get so much love in personal life and career. This year, it will be 10 years to the show and that's how long my journey has been as an actor."

Recalling the harsh shooting days from some of her projects, the Verna star went on to add that there were days when she would be drained of energy. "It happens quite a bit," Khan chuckled. "It happened with Bin Roye as well. We were, I think, shooting in extreme conditions. Recently, it happened with Superstar. When I'm completely done, and throwing a tantrum over something, I'm put in my place by my producers. It's nothing awful. But I'm just reminded of how people I am working with are just as passionate about everything as I am."

Khan has worked with some of the biggest names in the industry. Her onscreen pairing with Fawad Khan has been touted as one of the best we have seen in a long time. The duo will be seen next in Bilal Lashari and Ammara Hikmat’s The Legend of Maula Jatt, as well as Neelofar. She has also worked with Humayun Saeed in Bin Roye and will also share screen space soon with Fahad Mustafa in Nabeel Qureshi and Fizza Ali Meerza's Quaid-e-Azam Zindabad.

Talking about who her best co-star is, she said, "I think I've been very lucky. I have had some amazing co-actors. How can I name one! But if I do have to name one, I think I would have to say that I have really enjoyed working with Humayun. And of course, Fawad."
