ISLAMABAD:

More than 1,000 teachers of the Federal Directorate of Education (FDE) will receive long-awaited time-scale promotion on Tuesday (today).

The meeting of the promotion board will approve the promotion of 1,304 educators from basic pay scale (BPS) 16 to 17 and those in BPS 17 would be upgraded to BPS 18.

Some 318 male secondary school teachers 25 male school teachers physical, and 360 female SSTs would avail time-scale promotion.

Along with them, some 193 male senior elementary school teachers (ESTs) and 332 female senior ESTs will be promoted to the next grade.

In this regard, the Federal Teachers Association (FTA) President Malik Ameer hailed the efforts of FDE Director General (DG) Dr Ikramullah.

He commented that the problems of the teachers were being resolved on a priority basis in the tenure of the incumbent DG and none of the cases were pending.

The official said that the cases of promotion of other cadres would be referred to the promotion board soon.

Meanwhile, complaints of teachers being denied promotion or the benefits after being moved in the next grade are rife in FDE.

Teachers who have been promoted by the Ministry of Federal Education and Professional Training in April last year have yet to receive the financial benefits that go along with their new positions due to an inordinate delay in their posting on vacant seats by the FDE, sources said.

An official said that the ministry had on April 30, 2020, notified the promotion of some 36 teachers working under the FDE. However, they have yet to be posted on their respective seats.

Junior teachers working in the Islamabad Model Colleges under FDE have also demanded rectification of their service structure.

Due to the disordered service structure, most of the lady teachers of grade 18 and 19 are hardly promoted to the next grade; therefore, they are reaching their superannuation in the same grade while the teachers in grade 17 are stuck in the same grade.
