In yet another horrific incident, a man in India was arrested for allegedly raping his 17-year-old daughter repeatedly over the past seven years.

According to Times of India, the suspect had impregnated her minor daughter several times and forced her to abort the foetus. Police in the state of Haryana is interrogating the culprit.

The rape survivor, in her complaint to police, accused his father of molesting his other daughter, aged 11.

In the complaint to police, the 17-year-old said that her father worked as a cook with a government officer and stayed in an official quarter. She alleged that her father had been raping her for almost seven years. When she protested, he threatened to kill her.

Incidents of rape have, unfortunately, been a common occurrence in India. It is widely believed that not as many rapes are reported as many are committed.

Women in India are subjected to alarming levels of sexual assaults, irrespective of their caste or class.

Nearly 34,000 rapes were reported in the country in 2018, but the figures are considered the tip of iceberg, with many victims too scared to come forward.

In September, a woman was gang-raped on a bus to Delhi the entire Friday night and later thrown out of the bus, causing outrage in the entire country.

In 2012, a 23-year-old physiotherapy student was brutally raped on a moving bus in New Delhi.

Shocked by the brutality of the crime, large crowds gathered for candlelit vigils throughout the country, expressing outrage and praying for the victim as she clings to life.

However, the victim died in a hospital in Singapore, where she had been transferred in a desperate attempt to save her.

Outrage over her death led to India passing tough new laws against sexual violence, including the death penalty for rape in some cases.

In March, four men convicted for the rape and murder of the young woman were hanged in Tihar jail, on the outskirts of the Indian capital.
