Sindh records 922 fresh Covid infections

Pandemic claims 18 more lives; provincial death toll nears 3,800

KARACHI:

As many as 922 cases were reported in Sindh on Sunday, lifting the provincial tally to 235,576. Another 18 persons also succumbed to the virus overnight, apprised Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah in a statement issued by his office on the day.

According to the statement, the provincial death toll stands at 3,793, indicating a fatality rate of 1.6 per cent. Besides, 10,945 samples were tested over the weekend while another 691 persons also recovered from the virus. The total number of recoveries stood at 213,624 as the week ended.

As many as 18,159 persons are under treatment for the contagion in Sindh, said Shah, adding that 17,190 patients are in home isolation, 13 are at isolation centres and 956 have been admitted to different hospitals, where the condition of 872 persons is stated to be critical. At least 89 have been shifted to ventilators, according to Shah.

Of the fresh cases, 721 were detected in Karachi, including 219 from South district, 190 from East, 141 from Central, 84 from Korangi, 59 from Malir and 28 from West district.

Meanwhile, Hyderabad reported 38 new cases, Dadu 32, Mirpurkhas 17, Badin 13, Nausheroferoze and Khairpur 11 each, Larkana nine, Jamshoro eight, Kashmor six, Ghotki and Umerkot five each, Shaheed Benazirabad four, Sujawal three, Kamber Shahdadkot two, and Tharparkar, Sukkur and Thatta reported one each.

The chief minister urged people of the province once again to follow SOPs.
