The Special Assistant to the Prime Minister (SAPM) on Climate Change Malik Amin Aslam will inaugurate the rehabilitated Margalla Hills trail-four on Daman-e-Koh Road on Friday (today), a spokesperson shared on Thursday.
Trail-4 had been relatively unknown to passionate hikers in the city, told Islamabad Wildlife Management Board (IWMB) Assistant Director Sakhawat Ali. He said that the track located near Monkey Point, around one kilometre away from Islamabad Zoo towards Daman-e-Koh Road, was revamped. He mentioned that the trail has a proper track but included impediments and was rugged at certain locations, making it difficult for hikers to trek.
"Its revival is part of the IWMB initiative to introduce new hiking trails in the Margalla Hills National Park,” Ali shared. He added that it also aims to reduce traffic on Trails Three and Five as public presence has increased creating traffic jams on Margalla Road due to a large parking space.
He further mentioned that during the pandemic, people’s interaction has risen on the trails which is not suitable, therefore, new trails would help resolve this issue.
"This is a beautiful track full of natural beauty and wildlife but it's a professional hiking path that demands physically sound people to tread on it so people looking for recreation should abstain from visiting Trail-Four,” Ali advised. The Assistant Director informed that the Trail is eight kilometres long and located at 3,950 feet above sea level with a little narrow path preceding conventional tracks.
