The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) on Wednesday lashed out at the premier over his tweets on recent revelations by the Broadsheet LLC and maintained that the charge sheet presented by the international asset recovery firm was against former military ruler Pervez Musharraf and Imran Khan himself and not against her party.
Prime Minister Imran Khan on Wednesday said the recent revelations by Broadsheet were the "tip of the iceberg" and urged the recovery firm for complete transparency regarding money laundering of the country's elite. He further asked the firm to also reveal who stopped the investigations.
The chief executive officer of Broadsheet LLC, Kaveh Moussavi, had claimed that former premier Nawaz Sharif offered a bribe to the firm for abandoning a probe against his foreign assets and added that the deal was offered by a person claiming himself as the nephew of Sharif in the year 2012.
Addressing a news conference along with PML- N leader Musaddiq Malik at the Parliament Lodges, Maryam alleged that PM Imran while looking to follow-up for Broadsheet reports was indeed asking for a “clean chit” for himself.
“Imran Khan wakes up in the morning and starts demanding NRO. Broadsheet revelations have exposed former military dictator Pervez Musharraf and Imran,” she said.
Both the leaders said that Musharraf had given Rs6 billion to the asset inquiry firm to formulate a case against Nawaz Sharif.
Maryam alleged that SAPM Shehzad Akbar was having negotiations with Broadsheet. She said Musharraf had given Rs6 billion to the asset recovery firm and now the incumbent regime was paying another Rs4 billion to it.
She accused SAPM Akbar of seeking commission from Broadsheet and demanded that the negotiations between the PM’s aide and the asset recovery be made public.
Broadsheet, with its revelations, "has given a charge sheet against a dictator and selected ruler”, she said.
“The selected’ prime minister, through his political statement, has asked his opponents to talk about the Broadsheet issue,” she added.
Responding to a question regarding his association with the former military dictator, Musaddiq Malik said that he had worked on a project with Dr Nasim Ashraf (former PCB chairman) during the tenure of Musharraf but never had been with or a part of Musharraf’s cabinet.
My demand is that the government should call Broadsheet and question who is asking for commission from it, he said.
