KARACHI:

An anti-terrorism court on Monday convicted Saad Aziz, the main culprit of the 2015 Safoora Goth bus massacre in which 48 people were killed, and another Tahir Hussain, of killing a Pakistan Navy captain and a policeman.

The ATC issued its verdict in the murder case of Navy Captain Nadeem Ahmed and policeman Waqar Hassan, awarding Aziz 50-year imprisonment and Tahir 25-year jail term.

The court also imposed fines of Rs1 million on Aziz and Rs500,000 on Tahir. In case of non-payment of fines, convict Aziz would serve an additional six-year imprisonment while Tahir would spend three more years in jail. The amount would be paid as compensation to the heirs of the victims.

According to the police, Capt Ahmed was attacked in September 2013. He was killed while his wife Dr Teresa Ahmed was injured in the attack. Aziz also shot and killed policeman Waqar Hassan on October 16, 2014 in New Karachi.
