Standing committee on gender mainstreaming chairwoman presents report to Elahi

The Chairperson of Punjab Assembly's Standing Committee on Gender Mainstreaming and Women Development, Uzma Kardar, presented a report regarding introduction of the Safe City Authority's Women Protection App in all government and private universities to Speaker Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi on Monday.

The speaker appreciated the procedure for immediate action for women's protection from harassment.

Kardar presented reports about the standing committee’s performance, the Women Protection App and the Women's Summit programme.

She said the World Bank, Canadian high commissioner and director general of the Provincial Disaster Management Authority had agreed on bringing the women into the framework of the protection app at the national level.

She said that through
the app action would be taken within a short time after receiving information about an incident of harassment.

The speaker said on the occasion that women are an important part of the society who have the right to gain education with freedom, get employment and be part of national development. He said Islam has clearly declared women's rights in the society.

Democracy in any country is not complete till women have representation in the legislatures, he added.
