Six die in two road accidents

Road crashes involving multiple deaths are common in Punjab

MUZAFFARGARH/ MULTAN:

Six people including three of a family were killed in separate road accidents in Multan and Muzaffargarh on Wednesday.

Rescue 1122 officials told APP that at least three people including a woman were killed while two children sustained serious injuries after a car collided head-on with a tractor trolley.

The accident took place on M5 motorway passing through Jalalpur Pirwalla, the officials added. The unfortunate family was travelling from Lahore to Karachi when it fell prey to the fatal accident early in the morning. The reason for the road accident was yet to be ascertained.

The deceased victims were identified as 35-year-old Awais Butt, son of Basheer Butt, 34-year-old Kiran, wife of Awais Butt, and 22-year-old Ahmad, son of Abdullah.

Motorway DSP Faisal Faraz reached the spot soon after getting information of the accident. The dead bodies as well as the injured victims were shifted to Multan Nishtar Hospital. Police had started further investigation.

Separately, at least three persons were killed while two others sustained serious injuries due to collision between passenger van and trailer at Alipur tehsil.

According to Rescue 1122 officials, a passenger van collided with trailer near at Chandar Bhan nullah, Multan Road, Alipur tehsil in which three persons died on the spot and two others sustained injuries.

The incident occurred due to overspeeding. The deceased victims were identified as Imtiaz, Abdul Rasheed and Ahmad Buksh.

The bodies were shifted to Alipur Tehsil Headquarters Hospital. One of the victims, who was critically injured, was shifted to Muzaffargarh District Headquarters Hospital. Alipur Saddar police station registered the case and started investigation into the incident.

Road accidents involving multiple deaths were rampant across the province. On January 3, three members of a family were killed while five others suffered injuries when a van overturned while avoiding hitting a roadside tree on Kamalia Road, Chichawatni.

The accident took place near Khan Da Chak where the passenger van travelling from Faisalabad to Vehari overturned after its driver lost control over the steering wheel.

As a result of the incident, Abdur Rauf Butt, Khalida and Farida died on the spot, while Sofia Aslam, Shugufta, Farooq, Mubbashir and six-year-old Arham suffered multiple injuries.

On October 5 last year, a lawyer, his wife, son and mother-in-law were killed and two sons were seriously injured in a head-on collision between two cars near Dijkot.

The advocate, a resident of Sammundri, was going to his hometown from Faisalabad along with his family when his car collided with the vehicle coming from the opposite direction near Darbar Baba Riaz Shah. The collision was so severe that both cars were badly damaged.

On September 20, at least five members of a family were killed on Gojra Motorway while travelling from Lahore to Layyah after their car collided with a tractor trolley.

A man, his two sons and a couple were killed, while an eight-year-old boy was seriously injured in the accident.

On July 26, a speeding truck crushed five people travelling on a motorcycle to death on GT Road. The victims belonged to the same family.

On June 15, at least six members of a family going to attend a Valima ceremony were killed when a van caught fire after an accident on the motorway near Gojra.

The deceased included two children and a woman, while 10 people, including six children, were injured.

On May 27, six members of a family, including two women and two children, were killed and two minors were injured when a car hit a dumper truck on the motorway in Muridwala.
