Punjab sees highest number of deaths in 24 hours: NCOC

The number of active Covid-19 cases in Pakistan hits 37,740

The National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC) on Wednesday reported that the most coronavirus related deaths in the last 24 hours occurred in Punjab.

The number of active coronavirus cases in Pakistan reached 37,740, NCOC stated as Pakistan recorded 2,118 cases in the past day.

As many as 52 more fatalities were also recorded, taking the country's death toll to 10,461.

According to the NCOC, about 38,917 tests were conducted across the country in the last 24 hours, of which 2,118 came out positive, taking the country’s tally for cases so far reported to 492,594.

Deaths

Out of the total, 3,634 deaths have occurred in Sindh, 4,184 in Punjab, 1,695 in K-P, 432 in Islamabad, 186 in Balochistan, 229 in AJK and 101 in G-B.

The NCOC stated that of the 52 fatalities reported on January 5, 11 were reported in Sindh, 24 in Punjab, four in Islamabad and one in Balochistan.

Recoveries

According to NCOC, the total number of recoveries recorded in the country was 448,393.

Pakistan has so far conducted about 6,923,857 Covid-19 tests. There are about 626 hospitals with Covid-19 facilities and around 2,759 patients admitted across the country.
