Cops find body of man abducted 15 months ago

An eight-member robbers group took off with millions of rupees from a house in Allah Bakhsh Goth on Monday.

The robbery occurred in broad daylight within the limits of SITE Super Highway Industrial Area Police Station.

According to a member of the affected family, Fazlur Rehman, a group of eight thieves barged into their house at 11.35 in the morning and held the family hostage at gunpoint. The perpetrators remained in the house for 40 minutes, said Rehman. They took off with three tolas worth gold jewelry, Rs400,000 in cash and other goods amounting to millions of rupees, claimed Rehman.

Rehman further said that the robbers were dressed in pants, shirts and jackets and wore caps on their heads. They were in contact with someone on the outside who kept them informed of happenings outside the house via a mobile phone, added Rehman.

When the police arrived, at the house after the robbers had fled, they found the house turned upside down and belongings scattered everywhere. The police lodged an FIR of the incident and further investigation is underway.

Rangers arrest

Meanwhile, in an intelligence-based operation, the Sindh Rangers and the police arrested an alleged Lyari gangster, Muhammad Wasim alias Wasim Bhaiya [Brother Wasim], according to a statement issued on the day.

The raid to arrest the suspect, stated to be affiliated with the Ustad Ahmed Ali Magsi group, was carried out in Old Sabzi Mandi area.

According to the statement, the suspect, acting on the directives of Magsi, had barged into the office of a builder to demand Rs5 million in extortion money on December 7, 2020. The suspect and his accomplices were armed with pistols and hand grenades and could be identified in the CCTV footage, read the statement.

The statement further added that during initial investigation, the nabbed suspect confessed to opening fire at a shop in PIB Colony and admitted to his involvement in collecting extortion money.

The suspect is also accused of being involved in various robberies and street crimes in the city. Wasim was handed over to the police for further legal action.

Body of abducted man found Separately, the body of a man, who was abducted 15 months ago, was found from Northern Bypass within the limits of Gulshan-e-Maymar Police Station.

The deceased was shifted to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital, where he was identified as Luqman Khan, 32, son of Toor Khan.

According to police, the deceased was kidnapped from Pirabad area of Orangi Town on September 19, 2019. The police said that the abductors tortured the victim to death and dumped his body.

An abduction case had already been lodged at Pirabad Police Station and the AntiViolent Crime Cell had been on the case but to no avail. The police added that Pirabad DSP is further investigating the matter.
