Prime Minister Imran Khan has reminded the international community including the United Nations of their decades-old unfulfilled promise regarding right to self-determination made to the people of Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK)
“On 5th January 1949, the United Nations guaranteed the right to self-determination for the people of Jammu and Kashmir through an impartial plebiscite. We observe this day as a reminder to the UN and its member states of their unfulfilled commitment to the Kashmiri people,” the premier said in a series of tweets from his official handle late Monday.

Despite suffering 73 years of brutal Indian occupation, PM Imran said successive Kashmiri generations remained steadfast in the demand for their inalienable right to self-determination as guaranteed to them under the UN charter and by the UNSC.
The Indian government in August 2019 abrogated the autonomous status of IIOJK and put it under siege to ward off protests.
A recent report suggests that at least 65 Kashmiris have been extra-judicially killed in the occupied territory in 2020, aside from at least 232 freedom fighters killed in the same year.
“Pakistan stands unequivocally with the Kashmiri people in their struggle for freedom from the tyranny of one of the most ruthless, inhumane and illegal Occupation in modern history,” he added.

PM Imran urged the international community to take action against the well-documented human rights violations being committed with impunity by the Indian occupation forces against innocent Kashmiri men, women and children.
In November last year, the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) had unanimously adopted a resolution condemning India’s illegal action of revoking IIOJK autonomous status and steps to change the demography of the Muslim-majority region.
