MANSEHRA:

The district police on Sunday raided the residence of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) leader Mufti Kifayatullah to arrest him on charges of maligning the army but instead nabbed his four family members – including his sons, brother and brother-in-law – as he was not present there.

According to sources, the reason behind arresting Kifayatullah’s close family members was to put pressure on him and ensure his arrest.

However, district police officer Saddiq Baloch has rejected any arrests of Mufti Kifayatullah’s family and refused to comment further.

The four arrested have been kept at the Baffa Police Station.

A press release issued by the JUI-F here demanded the release of detained family members of Mufti Kifayatullah.

The JUI-F leader had refuted the charges levelled against him. His comments in a TV talk show were cited as the reason for booking him on treason charges.
