Zara Abid’s mum receives posthumous award for Best Model

The fashion industry remembers Abid for her notable work ethics

Zara Abid was one of the passengers on the ill-fated PIA flight PK 8303, that crashed in a residential area of Karachi back in May last year. The 28-year had been route Karachi from Lahore upon the death of a family member.

The 19th Lux Style Awards announced nominees for the Best Model category, including Abid for the same award. She has been nominated in the category for four years in a row only, to be receiving the award this time after her demise. Other nominees included Sadaf Kanwal, Anam Malik and Fahmeen Ansari.

Seven months after her demise, Abid becomes the first Pakistani model to receive a posthumous award, which was received by her mother and brother Daniyal Abid.

 

Former supermodel and the PR mogul, Frieha Altaf in her interview with BBC Asian Network shared the excellency of the late model. She also highlighted how Abid struggled to be dark-skinned in an industry that has a different concept around ‘beauty'.

Abid has always been known for her outspoken personality and always for being herself by first and foremost embracing her skin. Her confidence and style broke old stereotypes about beauty created by our very own society.
