Security plan laid out for New Year

Over 2,000 cops mustered to control revellers

ISLAMABAD:

The Islamabad Police outlined a security map for New Year’s Eve by ensuring special deployment of officers to maintain law and order situation in the federal capital, a spokesperson shared on Monday.

Around 2,000 policemen will be deployed to ensure security during any possible celebrations on New Year’s Eve, they added.

The plan was finalised by IGP Aamir Zulfiqar Khan in a meeting attended by Operations DIG Waqaruddin Syed, SSPs Security, Traffic, Counter-Terrorism Force, Assistant Inspector General (AIG) of Police Special Branch, AIG Operations, Additional SPs and all zonal SPs.

The IGP issued directions to deploy police teams at important places, shopping centres and main markets for the safety of public on December 31. He appealed to the citizens to demonstrate responsibility and act like members of a civilised society on the occasion.

He further directed all police officials to ensure special deployment in their respective areas for the safety of the public during the night. Police Commandos will be also deployed at different places apart from patrolling by police officials, he added.

“All police stations have been directed to provide fool proof security arrangements in their area of responsibility while special the Traffic Police teams have been informed to ensure smooth flow of traffic on the occasion,” the IGP maintained.

The IGP mentioned that the DIG Operations will monitor overall traffic arrangements while Anti-Terror Squad commandoes, policewomen commandoes, all DSPs and inspectors would perform patrolling duties in various areas. He also directed for strict action against those involved in one-wheeling, racing, fireworks and aerial firing.

The police chief said that every possible step would be taken to ensure protection to the lives and property of the citizens.
