Covid claims 22 more lives in Sindh

Another 1,035 infections reported in the province

KARACHI:

As many as 22 people succumbed to the coronavirus overnight, lifting the provincial death toll of the pandemic to 3,491, said Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah on Sunday.

Another 1,035 Covid-19 cases emerged in Sindh when 12,021 samples were tested for the virus between Saturday and Sunday, said Shah, adding that the virus tally has surged to 211,276.

According to the CM, there are 20,018 people in the province currently infected by the virus. Of these, 19,250 are in home isolation, 752 are undertreatment at different hospitals and 16 are in isolation centres. The condition of 664 patients is critical and at least 74 of them have been shifted to ventilators, informed Shah.

Meanwhile, another 732 patients recovered from the contagion overnight, taking the number of recoveries in the province to 187,767, according to the CM.

Of the recently reported cases in Sindh, 845 were detected in the provincial capital alone, with 304 cases detected in East district, 212 in South, 169 in Central, 107 in Korangi, 30 in West and 23 in Malir districts.

Hyderabad reported 56 cases, Kashmore 30, Badin 19, Shaheed Benazirabad 17, Sanghar and Jamshoro seven each, Ghotki, Jacobabad and Naushehro Feroze six apiece, Larkana, Sukkur, Shikarpur and Tando Allahyar two each and Thatta one.

The CM has once again appealed to citizens to follow the coronavirus-related standard operating procedures (SOPs).
