A head constable of Islamabad police was injured in firing during encounter with drug pusher, officials said.
According to police officers, Head Constable Afzal, along with constables Raqeeb and Athar from Nilore police were patrolling on motorbikes when they intercepted a suspect near Char Bridge.
They soon recognised the suspect as Safar Kodu and told him to surrender. However, Kodu pulled out a pistol and started shooting.
While the constables took position to return fire, Kodu jumped into the nullah under the bridge and fled. A bullet fired by Kodu hit Head Constable Afzal in the forehead leaving him seriously injured.
Afzal was rushed to Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (Pims) where he is stated to be in a cristical condition. Operations DIG Waqaruddin Syed has taken notice of this incident and assigned task to Rural zone SP Amjad Buttar to arrest the suspect at the earliest. SP Buttar has constituted special teams to catch the fugitive.
