Pakistani superstar Mahira Khan turns 36 today! The actor has had a rather busy year, thanks to her various projects. The star has been busy shooting this year for her two upcoming films, Quaid-e-Azam Zindabad, which will mark her debut project with fellow actor Fahad Mustafa and secondly, she will be reuniting with Fawad Khan in Neelofar. Mahira recently revealed that she has finished the final shooting spell for her second film.
Last week, the starlet took to Instagram and shared that she has tested positive for Covid-19, revealing that she has quarantined herself as well. While an extravagant affair for her birthday might not be on the cards, it doesn't mean she has any less reason to celebrate!
Despite its challenges, 2020 has truly been a fruitful year for Mahira! Here are four times the Verna star bagged recognition this year.
1. BBC 100 Most Influential Women:
Mahira was shortlisted by the network because she "speaks up about the causes and issues that matter to encourage change." "Khan is no ordinary actor – she is outspoken against sexual violence, refuses to endorse skin-lightening creams and supports the fight against racism," claimed the outlet. It went on to relay the Bin Roye star's determination to "tackle social issues in her native Pakistan by changing the narrative in films and on TV." Furthermore, BBC reinstated how Khan is a national Goodwill Ambassador for the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, who is "raising awareness about the plight of Afghan refugees in Pakistan."
2. Forbes 100 Asia Social Media Stars
The Raees star was the first star to be named in the list, which seemed to be in no particular order. According to the publication, the Raees star was to be a part of the much-awaited action drama The Legend of Maula Jatt, which is touted to be Pakistan’s most expensive film to date. "Khan uses her social media presence — nearly seven million Instagram followers and over four million on Facebook — to raise awareness about mental health issues, violence against women and breast cancer," the description for the actor read.
3. Best Actress at Pakistan International Awards 2020
The actor won the Best Actress award for her latest film Superstar, starring Bilal Ashraf. Donning Rami Kadi's sequinned ensemble, Mahira looked stunning as she strutted the red carpet, while she changed into an Elan outfit during the ceremony. The actor also stopped on her way to the venue to click a few pictures with her awaiting fans.
4. Best Actress at Lux Style Awards 2020
Other than PISA, Mahira also bagged the Best Actress award for Superstar at this year's Lux Style Awards as well. The actor has been lauded for her work at local award shows as well.
