The leaders of a Joint Action Committee, a representative body comprising owners of private schools in the garrison city, demanded on Sunday that the government announce the reopening of educational institutes from January 11, 2021.
The committee warned that the schools will be opened regardless of an official notification from the government. The members lamented that the institutions were facing a financial crunch due to an early closure for winter vacations, claiming that it has become impossible for them to survive.
The members asserted that all representative organisations on the committee have been consulted and mutually arrived at the decision of reopening schools from January 11. They suggested that the decision to shut down educational institutions with the onset of the second wave of the novel coronavirus was unfair as every other business activity was allowed to continue by following the relevant standard operating procedures.
The committee expressed that the government should ensure implementation of its decision regarding offering interest-free loans to schools to help them cover their losses.
