
Five persons, including a woman and a minor girl, were wounded in an explosion at a residential apartment near University Road in the limits of Mobina Town Police Station on Sunday evening.
Rescue workers and law enforcement officials arrived at the site and shifted the injured to a nearby hospital for immediate medical attention and then to the burns ward at the Dr Ruth Pfau Civil Hospital for further treatment.
According to police, the flat in which the explosion occurred had been vacant for the past six months. But a real estate agent visited the flat on Sunday with a prospective buyer and his family, and when they switched on the light, there was a blast that left five persons injured.
The injured were identified as real estate agent Rauf, and Jabbar, Zainab and Abdul Qadir. A minor girl was also injured in the explosion.
The bomb disposal squad reached the site following the explosion and carried out an inspection of the site. According to the initial report, the explosion occurred due to a short circuit. Moreover, gas leakage from the geyser intensified the explosion, the report suggested. The explosion caused damage to the third and fourth floor of the apartment building. Further investigation is underway.
