Sindh records 14 fatalities, 737 Covid infections

The virus tally in the province has soared to 204,840

KARACHI:

The coronavirus claimed another 14 lives in the province overnight, lifting the death toll to 3,333, said Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah on Sunday.

According to a statement released by the Chief Minister's House on the day, 737 fresh Covid-19 cases were reported in Sindh overnight.

As many as 9,322 samples were tested between Saturday and Sunday and 737 fresh cases emerged indicating a positivity ratio of 7.9 per cent, said Shah. He added that the virus tally in the province has soared to 204,840.

Meanwhile, he apprised that 950 people recovered from the contagious disease, which took the number of recoveries to 180,730, indicating a recovery rate of 88 per cent.

The chief minister further stated that there were 20,777 people in the province currently infected by the virus, of which 19, 917 are in home isolation, 845 are being treated at different hospitals and 15 are admitted at isolation centres. He added that the condition of 743 is critical and at least 77 of them have been shifted to the ventilator. Shah shared that of all the freshly diagnosed Covid-19 cases, 542 were detected in the provincial capital, with 169 each from the South and East districts, 71 from Korangi, 54 from Central, 46 from Malir and 33 from West.

Meanwhile, Hyderabad reported 54 cases, Jamshoro 17, Sujawal 13, Dadu 11, Shaheed Benazirabad 10, Badin seven, Thatta, Khairpur, Tando Muhammad Khan and Matiari six apiece, Larkana and Qambar-Shahdadkot five each, Mirpurkhas, Shikarpur, Umerkot, Sukkur and Naushehro Feroze four each, Tando Allahyar three, Jacobabad and Ghotki two each.

Shah once again urged the people to follow the standard operating procedures to curb the spread of the virus.
