PESHAWAR:

An accountability court in Peshawar on Saturday ordered the release of three suspects, including a former sub-registrar and a legal advisor, accused of being involved in grabbing land. During Saturday’s proceedings, a lawyer representing Qazi Jawad Ihsanullah told the court that the Galiyat Development Authority (GDA) had issued a notice to a private party over grabbing of public land. The lawyer argued that the total size of plot in possession of the private landholder was 24 kanals while the notification claimed that the plot measured 29 kanals. Subsequently, he said, a joint investigation team (JIT) was formed to investigate the matter. It concluded that only five kanal government land had been grabbed. However, the lawyer argued that the JIT members never visited the allegedly grabbed site and submitted a report which was unjust. The court, after hearing both the sides, ordered the release of the three accused.
