RAWALPINDI:

The senior officials of Rawalpindi police have taken a stern notice of the new vehicles provided by the Punjab government for patrolling to police stations being used for carrying out VVIP and other duties.

Senior police officers took notice and instructed to use the vehicles only for patrolling duty within the limits of the jurisdiction police stations. It has been clarified that if any police vehicle is found on duty other than patrolling in violation of SOPs, strict departmental action will be taken against the concerned officers. According to details, the Punjab government has provided modern mobile vehicles to the police in major districts, including Rawalpindi, for patrolling.

These white mobile vans, provided to each police station, are equipped with modern GPS systems, and tabs installed in them contain databases of criminal elements and stolen vehicles. As per devised SOPs, it was made clear to the drivers including the SHOs and other staff of police stations that the vehicles will be used exclusively for patrolling. However, in Rawalpindi, it was revealed that these vehicles, were used to haul suspects to and from the court too. SP Security has written to sub-divisional police officers and SHOs of the district, clearly stating the use of new mobile vans for duties other than patrolling violates SOPs. If any van is used for other purposes, strict action will be taken against the responsible officers.
