Swati calls for increasing revenue, reducing expenses

Railways minister stresses need for ensuring safety of life, property of passengers

ISLAMABAD:

Federal Minister for Railways Muhammad Azam Khan Swati has stressed the need for ensuring the safety of life and property of the passengers, saying that any negligence in this regard would not be tolerated at all.

“In case of any accident, third party inquiry should be ensured to find out the facts and reasons,” Swati said while chairing a special meeting on security of train operations at the Ministry of Railways on Tuesday.

Swati issued directions for increasing revenue and reducing expenses to make Pakistan Railways a stable and dynamic entity.

He reiterated that the safety of the passengers and providing them the best facilities were among his top priorities.

The railways minister was given a full briefing by Railways Secretary/Chairman Habibur Rehman Gilani and Ministry of Railways Director General Operations Kashif Rasheed Yousufani on train operations and safety measures.

On the occasion, Gilani briefed Swati regarding the installation of geo-tagging grey spots used by the Punjab government.

The federal minister directed all the divisional officers to ensure the safety of the passengers as well as public awareness.

Also, Ministry of Railways Member Finance Dr Azmi Ikram briefed the minister about the financial situation of the company.
