The under-trial prisoner shot and injured at the Malir City Court the previous day succumbed to his wounds on Tuesday while an anti-terrorism court handed over the shooter to the police on physical remand till December 23.

The Malir City police produced accused Kifayatullah before the court. The investigation officer told the court that Kifayatullah shot and injured prisoner Khushdil outside the Malir city court prior to a murder case hearing on Monday.

The IO informed the court that a case has been lodged against Kifayatullah, who had confessed to the crime during initial interrogation. The IO further stated that Khushdil had succumbed to the gunshot wounds during treatment.

The ATC sent the accused on physical remand till December 23 and sought a progress report from the police at the next hearing.

Khushdil, 25, was arrested on charges of killing Kifayatullah’s teenaged son, 19-year-old Ahsan Ali, in 2016 in the limits of the Quaidabad police station. He was being taken before the Malir court for a hearing in which the court was expected to pronounce the verdict when Kifayatullah opened fire at him and then surrendered to the police.

Khushdil had been shifted to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre in critical condition with bullet wounds to the head and the face. His body was shifted to the Edhi morgue after medico-legal formalities.
