RAWALPINDI:

The construction of a new 100-bed general hospital at the entrance of the city on Chakri Road has formally started.

The hospital in the suburban area of Jorain is expected to be completed in two years at an estimated cost of Rs500 million, officials told The Express Tribune on Sunday.

The new healthcare facility will be equipped with modern technology along with a well-equipped emergency department which will operate round the clock. It will be a very important healthcare facility for the casualties of traffic accidents on the motorway and GT Road.

Road crash victims will get medical assistance more quickly, instead of wasting crucial time spent reaching the three allied hospitals of city, Holy Family Hospital (HFH), Benazir Bhutto Hospital (BBH) and District Headquarters (DHQ) Hospital.

In this regard, the Aviation Minister Ghulam Sarwar Khan told The Express Tribune that the multi-storey hospital was being constructed on 96 kanals of land. He added that the hospital will also have labour rooms and mother and children wards. The new hospital will also have two modern operation theatres for all types of operations while there would be specialised doctors in all departments. The minister said that the medicines will be provided free to the patients.

Sarwar, who takes special interest in development projects in his home constituency, said the development of healthcare facilities in Rawat, Kahuta, and Murree would begin in the next fiscal year.
