MULTAN:

Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi has said that the opposition’s public meetings amid Covid-19 pandemic are not only playing with people’s lives but also damaging the country’s economy.

"After 70 years, the country got honest leadership in the shape of Prime Minister Imran Khan, however, the PDM [Pakistan Democratic Movement] does not want the progress of the country," he said while talking to the people of constituencies NA-156 and NA-157 in Multan on Sunday.

FM Qureshi reiterated that the journey of progress would continue with the same pace. "The opposition cannot deceive the masses on the pretext of hollow slogans and democracy."

The people, he said, are now politically mature and they understood tactics of the opposition.

"The opposition is not sincere with the masses as it is holding political gatherings amid peak of the pandemic," he said, adding that the ongoing second wave of Covid-19 is very severe.

The foreign minister also said that the government is not afraid of opposition public meetings. PM Imran, he said, has urged the opposition to postpone political gatherings in order to save people from the pandemic.

"The opposition is holding public meetings to only save looted money," he said, adding it wanted to mislead masses but they understood the opposition’s intention.

He went on to say that the masses have rejected the political parties and their leaders, who had plundered money illegally in elections 2018. "The people will also reject them in elections 2023."
