Punjab sees highest number of deaths in 24 hours: NCOC

Highest number of ventilators occupied in Multan, followed by Islamabad and Lahore

ISLAMABAD:

The National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC) on Sunday reported that the most coronavirus related deaths in the last 24 hours occurred in Punjab.

Pakistan's Covid-19 death toll jumped to 8,796 on Sunday. The highest death toll was observed in Punjab with a total of 3,351 deaths, followed by Sindh with 3,149 fatalities, 1,463 in K-P, 368 in Islamabad, AJK 191, Balochistan 175 and G-B at 99.

In the 24-hour period, 3,369 people tested positive for the virus and 72 succumbed to it, 42 of them died on ventilators.

The highest number of ventilators occupied in the country was found to be in Multan with 58 per cent occupancy, followed by Islamabad at 52 per cent, Lahore 37 per cent and Peshawar 28 per cent.

Meanwhile, the highest number of oxygen bed occupancy in the country was in Peshawar, at 63 per cent, Rawalpindi 56 per cent, Multan 50 per cent and Islamabad 45 per cent.

The total number of active cases in the country stands at 46,629. At least 42,222 tests were carried out in theh last 24 hours, of which 15,637 were conducted in Punjab, followed by 13,393 in Sindh, 5,965 in Islamabad, 5,891 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (K-P), 490 in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK), 441 in Balochistan and 405 in Gilgit-Baltistan (G-B).

On December 5, the NCOC noted that the country's coronavirus positivity ratio had again climbed to 7.59pc, with the highest positivity ratio observed in Abbotabad at 17.57pc.

The ratio had decreased to around 7.2pc earlier.

After Abbotabad, the second highest positivity ratio was observed in Rawalpindi at 15.26pc, followed by Karachi at 14.31pc and Hyderabad at 12.13pc.
