Karachi’s East district sees most Covid deaths

Over 1,500 new coronavirus cases emerge, 10 more succumb to virus

Of 3,099 coronavirus-related deaths reported in Sindh until Thursday, the highest number of fatalities, numbering 905, came from Karachi's East district, according to data released by the Sindh health department.

Closely following East district is Central district, with 552 deaths. Meanwhile, 381 Covid-19 deaths have been reported from South district, 304 from Korangi, 261 from West district and 188 from Malir.

Adding up to 2,591 deaths, Karachi has seen the highest fatalities, according to the department's data. It is followed by Hyderabad, with a death toll of 139. The two cities have also seen the highest infections in the province, with Karachi accounting for around a quarter of the country's cases.

Thus far, Tharparkar has reported the lowest number of Covid-19 deaths, with just three people succumbing to the contagion in the district.

Covid-19 update

Separately, Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah said that 10 more deaths were reported in province on Thursday, raising the death toll to 3,109.

Besides, he added, 1,559 new Covid-19 cases have emerged, following which the virus tally has climbed to 191,246.

Of the new cases, 1,262 were detected in Karachi, 77 in Hyderabad, 29 in Thatta, 17 in Sukkur, 14 in Ghotki, 13 in Larkana, 10 in Matiari, nine in Mirpurkhas and as many in Dadu, eight each in Naushero Feroze and Umerkot, seven each in Shikarpur, Jacobabad and Qambar-Shahdadkot, six in Shaheed Benazirabad, five in Sujawal, four in Badin, three in Jamshoro, two in Tando Muhammad Khan and one each in Kashmore-Kandhkot and Tando Allahyar.

The CM further said 1,112 patients had regained health overnight, lifting the total number of recoveries in Sindh to 164,604.

Now, he said, 23,533 Covid-19 patients are under treatment in the province, with 22,627 in home isolation, 15 in isolation centres and 891 in hospitals. Among them, 777 are critically ill, with 94 on ventilators, the CM added.
