K-P task force reviews measures to curb coronavirus spread

Pakistan’s Covid-19 positivity ratio continues to rise, recorded at 8.58 per cent on Tuesday

A meeting of Provincial Task Force on Covid-19 was held at Corps Headquarters in Peshawar on Tuesday, in which measures being taken to curb the spread of coronavirus in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa were reviewed.

Chief Minister Mahmood khan, Peshawar Corps Commander Lieutenant General Nauman Mahmood and other senior civil and military officials attended the meeting, read a statement issued by Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).

The forum reviewed Covid-19 situation in K-P and actions being taken to implement coronavirus standard operating producers (SOPs).

The military’s media wing said the officials were also briefed about current capacity of hospitals for Covid patients and measures being taken to enhance it.

The province has reported 50,506 infections with 1,429 deaths so far since the outbreak of the disease.

“Steps for Implementation of Non-pharmaceutical interventions (NPI) in light of NCOC directions were discussed in detail,” read the ISPR statement.

CM Mahmood expressed satisfaction on the progress made so far to prevent spread of coronavirus in the province.

Covid positivity rate

Meanwhile, the country’s Covid-19 positivity rate continued to rise as it was recorded at 8.58 per cent on Tuesday. As many as 2,486 coronavirus patients were in critical condition across the country with the number of critical patients rising at a fast pace, said National Command and Control Center (NCOC) in a statement.

The highest positivity ratio was observed in Karachi at 21.80 per cent followed by Mirpur with 18.31 per cent and Muzaffarabad with 16 per cent.

The positivity ratio in federating units Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) and Gilgit-Baltistan (G-B) recorded at 9.77% and 2.78% respectively.

Balochistan 8.68%, Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) 4.88 per cent, K-P 9.67 per cent, Punjab four per cent and Sindh recorded 13.87 per cent positivity ratio.

The NCOC statement also mentioned the province wise breakdown that indicated Lahore had 5.98 per cent, Rawalpindi 8.51 per cent, Faisalabad 3.73 per cent, Multan 2.38 per cent and Gujranwala 0.24 per cent in Punjab.

In Sindh, Karachi had 21.80 per cent, Hyderabad 9.15 per cent.

In K-P, Peshawar had 14.91 per cent, Abbotabad 4.04 per cent and Swat had 13.35 per cent, whereas in Balochistan, Quetta had 4.81 per cent, in ICT 4.88 per cent positivity ratio was prevailing.

In AJK, Mirpur had 18.31 per cent positivity ratio, Muzaffarabad 16 per cent and in G-B, Gilgit recorded 4.44 per cent positivity ratio.

As many as 305 coronavirus patients were on ventilators across the country.

In Punjab, the maximum number of patients on ventilators was 86 in Lahore followed by 42 patients in Multan, 15 in Rawalpindi and three in Faisalabad.

In Sindh, there were 76 patients on ventilators in Karachi and no patient was on ventilator in Hyderabad.

In K-P, 45 patients were on ventilators in Peshawar and no patient was on ventilator in Abbottabad.

There was no patient on ventilator in Balochistan and G-B while 37 patients on ventilators in Islamabad.

In AJK one patient was on ventilator in Muzaffarabad and no patient was on ventilator in Mirpur.
