The right to a franchise is the fundamental cog in the democratic process which cannot be ignored, hence there is a need to create greater awareness around this right.

This was stated on Monday by the Hazara Regional Election Commissioner Sardar Jehanzeb while addressing an event to celebrate National Voters Day.

Issues surrounding voting, including need and registration of computerised national identity card (CNIC), voter registration - especially of the transgender community, postal ballots for the specially-abled, issues faced by minorities, the role of youth in voter education, the importance of voter certificate and inclusion of women in the election process were discussed.
