The US State Department cautioned US citizens about the risks of travelling to Pakistan in an updated version of the Travel Warning for Pakistan. The update includes information about the ongoing security concerns in Pakistan.

A report by the Bureau of Consular Affairs stated that the al Qaeda, the Taliban and other militants carry a hostile attitude towards US citizens in particular and thus, pose a potential threat to them particularly in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) province.

The US citizens who wish to travel to Pakistan despite the Travel Warning were encouraged to enroll with the US embassies in Pakistan which will enable them to receive security updates via the emergency alert system, said the report.

It also stated the several incidents of kidnapping, harassment, arrests and murders of US citizens that took place in Pakistan since January 2011.

It said that terrorists disguise themselves as security personnel “to seek opportunities to attack locations where US citizens and Westerners are known to congregate or visit.”
