Six months into the new fiscal year, the budgets of Rawalpindi and Chakala cantonment boards await approval of the competent authority, The Express Tribune learnt.
The budgets of the Rawalpindi Cantonment Board (RCB) and Chaklala Cantonment Board (CCB) have not yet received approval, although the fiscal year started on July 1.
The elected representatives of cantonment boards had referred the budget documents to the Department of Military Lands and Cantonments (DMLC) for approval before the dissolution of the local bodies system and losing power in Punjab.
When The Express Tribune talked with the officials of RCB and CCB in this regard, they said the cantonment boards could not implement on the budgets unless DMLC does not send back the budget documents after approval.
As per the financial realm followed in the budget process, the competent authority resends budgets to the cantonment boards after approving them with recommendations.
