Six AMC dept heads removed from post

Dean has penalised them for failing to start departmental practice

Six professors at the Ayub Medical College have been removed from their positions as departmental chairmen after they failed to start departmental practice.

In a notification issued from the office of the Ayub Medical College (AMC) dean on Saturday, as many as six professors including Professor Dr Hassan Kazimi of the Pathology Department, Prof Dr Nisar Ahmed of Medicine and Allied Health, Prof Dr Tahir Saeed of the Pediatrics Department, Prof Dr Khalid Khan of the Surgery Department, Prof Dr Aziz Unisa of Gynaecologists and Obstetricians Department, have been removed from their post.

They have been replaced by their juniors including Junior Associate Prof Dr Danish Zafar, Associate Prof Dr Abdul Rauf, Associate Prof Dr Saima Gillani, Associate Prof Dr Ismail Abkar, and Prof Dr Ansara Islam respectively.

Ear, nose and throat department’s head Prof Dr Asif Karim has been replaced by Prof Dr Faridullah Khan who will hold the position as an acting chairman.

The dean explained that strict instructions had been issued for all doctors to end their private practice outside the facility and instead start departmental practice. However, they had failed to comply.

Fees charged for wheelchairs

Meanwhile, patients visiting the Ayub Teaching Hospital (ATH) has started charging a fee from patients for using a wheelchair, prompting protests from patients.

A source told The Express Tribune that the decision to stop the provision of free wheelchair services in the facility was made in a meeting of the hospital’s board of directors. Banners in this regard have been put up at the entrance of the emergency department.
