PTI labour union leader challenges PSM sackings
Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf's labour union leader Javed Ahmed filed on Saturday a plea in the Sindh High Court, challenging the termination of thousands of Pakistan Steel Mills' (PSM) employees last week.
He has maintained in the plea that 4,544 employees had been illegally sacked from the PSM, moving the court to nullify the PSM chief executive officer's decision of firing the workers and direct Prime Minister Imran Khan to review his decision.
PM Khan, the cabinet secretary, Ministry of Industries and Production and others, have been nominated as parties in the plea.
The move has been faced with widespread protests and backlash, with the Sindh government lambasting the federal government - led by the PTI, Ahmed's own party - for terminating the workers in the middle of the pandemic-induced financial crunch.
